PWR Finishes the 2008 Season with Bronze at the Head of the Lake

With a return to the "classic" HOTL course, came the return of crews to this great event. PWR boated a B 8+, and thoroughly enjoyed the race, boat-stopping crab at the turn, notwithstanding. Our newly indoctrinated coxswain, Renee, handled the crab like a veteran, and rallied us all to relax and dig deep. We finished the last 1500 meters at dead sprint, with smiles on our faces. Damn - that was FUN!

PWR Wins Women's Masters 8+ at 2008 Portland Fall Classic
On the heels of a solid showing in Boston, PWR took gold on its home turf one week later. It was a perfect fall day, with bright sun and enough wind to whip up colorful leaves throughout the city of Portland. But the main event for rowers and families was the second annual Portland Fall Classic, a 3-mile course on the Willamette River from the big pipe behind Ross Island to the end of the floating dock between the Burnside and Steel Bridges. Portland Women's Rowing fielded an open Women's 8+ that took first against Willamette, Station L, Marthas Moms, Everett Rowing, and Bainbridge Island Rowing Club.

PWR Sends Women's Club 8+ to 2008 Head of the Charles
After waiting two years to enter the lottery (a requirement for all new rowing clubs), Portland Women's Rowing got an entry in the Women's Open 8+ event and sent its first crew to Boston for the venerable 2008 Head of the Charles. It was classic New England fall weather---clear and
crisp, with a bit of wind---as our crew headed for the start line. Starting 45th in a race of 45 crews, PWR passed Lake Union in the first third of the race, and rowed through Wellesley College in the second third. PWR finished 18th overall, securing a guaranteed entry for 2009.

PWR Rows for the Cure, September 2008
Portland Women's Rowing joined the effort to find a cure for breast cancer by taking part in the annual Row for the Cure race, which takes place on the Willamette River adjacent to Race for the Cure at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. PWR's Masters Women's 4+ took first place, and our Masters 8+ took second behind Corvallis Rowing Club.
