About PWR -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PWR Mission The mission of Portland Women’s Rowing is to promote competitive masters women’s rowing in the Portland metro area, in an atmosphere of integrity, camaraderie, and respect for our fellow athletes and the greater rowing community. Our objective is to produce the fastest masters women's crews possible, under the direction of the best coaching available. Our goal is to encourage experienced master’s women rowers to achieve excellence in the sport and to support the local rowing community.
PWR Members Our rowing experience ranges from a couple of years to decades. Most of us also scull. Currently we range in age from 23 to 60. We are a Master's Club, but we welcome all experienced women rowers over 18 years old. (Because we understand that rowing can be hard to afford for those who are just entering the workforce, we provide a flexible dues arrangement for rowers under the age of 27.)
PWR History PWR was established in January 2006 and set up 'home' in the Portland Boathouse, located on the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge. Some of us came from other rowing clubs in Portland and others came back to rowing for the first time since leaving college. We also attracted some experienced rowers relocating to the Portland area. During our first year we raced primarily in the Northwest Region and won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in all our races. In 2008 we will continue to row out of the now-refurbished Portland Boathouse. We'll also continue to benefit from the guidance of our coach, Kalle Crafton.
